About

Marathon Petroleum Corporation operates as a comprehensive, integrated downstream energy enterprise with its primary focus within the United States. Its activities are divided into two principal segments: Refining & Marketing, and Midstream. The Refining & Marketing division processes crude petroleum and other raw materials at its facilities located across the U.S. Gulf Coast, Mid-Continent, and West Coast regions. It also procures refined petroleum products and ethanol for subsequent resale. Its diverse product portfolio includes vehicular fuels, such as specially formulated and blend-grade gasoline, heavy fuel oil, and paving asphalt. Additionally, this segment produces a range of industrial chemicals including aromatics, propane, propylene, and sulfur. Marathon Petroleum distributes its refined goods to wholesale clients both domestically and globally, sells to spot market participants, and supplies independent business owners operating predominantly Marathon-branded service stations, along with direct dealer sites primarily under the ARCO brand through long-term fuel agreements. The Midstream segment is dedicated to energy product logistics, overseeing the transportation, storage, distribution, and commercialization of crude oil and refined commodities. This is accomplished leveraging a comprehensive network of refinery logistics infrastructure, pipelines, terminals, towboats, and barges. Furthermore, this segment collects, processes, and conveys natural gas, and is also involved in the aggregation, transport, fractionation, storage, and sale of natural gas liquids. As of December 31, 2021, the corporation maintained a presence at 7,159 branded jobber locations across 37 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and Mexico, all managed by independent business operators. Marathon Petroleum Corporation, founded in 1887, maintains its corporate headquarters in Findlay, Ohio.

One Marathon Petroleum share is €341.55 — about ₹37,330 at an EUR/INR rate of 109.29 on 28 Sep 2026. Both the Marathon Petroleum price and the rupee rate move during the day, so the rupee cost changes with them.

What are the LRS and TCS rules for buying Marathon Petroleum from India?

Remit up to $250,000 per financial year under the RBI's Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS). Banks collect 20% tax at source on LRS remittances above ₹10 lakh in a financial year; the TCS is adjustable against your income-tax liability. How are gains on Marathon Petroleum shares taxed in India?

Gains on shares held for more than 24 months are long-term and taxed at 12.5%. Gains on shares held for 24 months or less are short-term and taxed at your income-tax slab rate. The gain is computed in rupees using the EUR/INR rate on the purchase and the sale date, so the rupee move counts alongside the Marathon Petroleum price. Paasa issues a capital-gains statement for your return.

Does Marathon Petroleum pay a dividend, and how is it taxed in India?

Yes. Marathon Petroleum pays a dividend and the current yield is 1.03%; the last declared dividend was €3.46 per share, about ₹378.54. Dividends are taxed at your slab rate in India. Paasa's dividend report lists the gross dividend and any tax withheld for each payment.

When can I trade Marathon Petroleum from India?

Is Marathon Petroleum a Germany company, and does that change how it is taxed?

Marathon Petroleum trades on XETRA in EUR, but the company is domiciled in United States. Marathon Petroleum trades as an ordinary share listed directly in Germany, not a depositary receipt. Your India-side capital-gains treatment is the same either way.

Do I have to declare Marathon Petroleum shares in my Indian tax return?

Yes. Foreign shares held on 31 March must be reported in Schedule FA of your Indian income-tax return. Paasa gives you a Schedule FA-ready statement listing your Marathon Petroleum holding, its cost and its closing value.

How do I sell Marathon Petroleum and bring the money back to India?

You sell during market hours (12:30 pm – 9:00 pm IST) and the proceeds settle in EUR in your Paasa account. From there you can hold the balance, reinvest, or repatriate. Funds can be withdrawn in any currency to any bank account in your own name. Whether the sale is short- or long-term is decided by the 24-month holding period.

Does the rupee rate affect what I make on Marathon Petroleum?

Yes. Marathon Petroleum is priced in EUR, so your rupee outcome combines the EUR move with the EUR/INR move between the day you remit and the day you convert back. Both directions are reflected in the capital-gains statement Paasa issues.
