About

Chevron Corporation is a global enterprise engaged in comprehensive energy and chemical operations. The company's activities are divided into two primary divisions: Upstream and Downstream. The Upstream segment is dedicated to the exploration, development, production, and transportation of crude oil and natural gas. This includes the full spectrum of liquefied natural gas (LNG) operations, from processing and liquefaction to transportation and regasification, alongside crude oil pipeline transport, and the storage, movement, and marketing of natural gas. It also manages a facility that converts natural gas into liquids. The Downstream segment focuses on refining crude oil into petroleum products, along with the marketing of crude oil, refined goods, and lubricants. It is also involved in the creation and distribution of renewable fuels, the transportation of crude and refined products via pipelines, marine vessels, road vehicles, and rail, and the manufacturing and sale of bulk petrochemicals, plastics for industrial applications, and additives for fuels and lubricants. Additionally, Chevron manages its own cash and debt financing, insurance services, real estate holdings, and technology development. Founded in 1879, Chevron Corporation, headquartered in San Ramon, California, was formerly known as ChevronTexaco Corporation before adopting its current name in 2005.

How to buy Chevron from India

Indian residents can buy Chevron shares through Paasa in four steps. Funds leave India under the RBI's Liberalised Remittance Scheme and the shares are held in your own name with Interactive Brokers.

  1. Open a Paasa account

Complete digital KYC with your PAN, Aadhaar and address proof. Your brokerage account is opened in your own name with Interactive Brokers.

  2. Add funds under LRS

Transfer INR from your Indian bank account. Your bank reports the remittance under the RBI's Liberalised Remittance Scheme and converts it to US dollars and then to EUR.

  3. Search for Chevron and place an order

Find Chevron by name or by its ticker, CHV, and choose an order type. Chevron trades 12:30 pm – 9:00 pm IST; orders can only execute during that window.

  4. Track holdings and download tax reports

Follow your Chevron position in EUR and INR, and use Paasa's capital-gains and dividend statements when you file your Indian return.

FAQs

Can Indian residents buy Chevron stock?

Yes. Chevron (CHV) has been listed on XETRA since 2002, in the Oil & Gas Integrated industry, and Indian residents can buy it through Paasa. You fund the account from your Indian bank under the RBI's Liberalised Remittance Scheme and the money is converted to US dollars and then to EUR. Shares are held in your own name at Interactive Brokers, segregated from Paasa's own assets.

How much does one Chevron share cost in rupees?

One Chevron share is €180.36 — about ₹19,643 at an EUR/INR rate of 108.91 on 29 Sep 2026. Both the Chevron price and the rupee rate move during the day, so the rupee cost changes with them.

What are the LRS and TCS rules for buying Chevron from India?

Remit up to $250,000 per financial year under the RBI's Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS). Banks collect 20% tax at source on LRS remittances above ₹10 lakh in a financial year; the TCS is adjustable against your income-tax liability. FX and the LRS declaration are handled by your bank when you fund your account.

How are gains on Chevron shares taxed in India?

Gains on shares held for more than 24 months are long-term and taxed at 12.5%. Gains on shares held for 24 months or less are short-term and taxed at your income-tax slab rate. The gain is computed in rupees using the EUR/INR rate on the purchase and the sale date, so the rupee move counts alongside the Chevron price. Paasa issues a capital-gains statement for your return.

Does Chevron pay a dividend, and how is it taxed in India?

Yes. Chevron pays a dividend and the current yield is 3.43%; the last declared dividend was €6.06 per share, about ₹659.59. Dividends are taxed at your slab rate in India. Paasa's dividend report lists the gross dividend and any tax withheld for each payment.

When can I trade Chevron from India?

XETRA trades 12:30 pm – 9:00 pm IST in Indian time. The window shifts to 1:30 pm – 10:00 pm IST when Germany is on standard time. Orders can only execute during that window.

Is Chevron a Germany company, and does that change how it is taxed?

Chevron trades on XETRA in EUR, but the company is domiciled in United States. Chevron trades as an ordinary share listed directly in Germany, not a depositary receipt. Your India-side capital-gains treatment is the same either way.

Do I have to declare Chevron shares in my Indian tax return?

Yes. Foreign shares held on 31 March must be reported in Schedule FA of your Indian income-tax return. Paasa gives you a Schedule FA-ready statement listing your Chevron holding, its cost and its closing value.

How do I sell Chevron and bring the money back to India?

You sell during market hours (12:30 pm – 9:00 pm IST) and the proceeds settle in EUR in your Paasa account. From there you can hold the balance, reinvest, or repatriate. Funds can be withdrawn in any currency to any bank account in your own name. Whether the sale is short- or long-term is decided by the 24-month holding period.

Does the rupee rate affect what I make on Chevron?

Yes. Chevron is priced in EUR, so your rupee outcome combines the EUR move with the EUR/INR move between the day you remit and the day you convert back. Both directions are reflected in the capital-gains statement Paasa issues.
