About

Align Technology, Inc. is a medical technology enterprise that develops, produces, and markets its leading products: Invisalign transparent dental aligners and iTero digital intraoral scanners, along with related services. These offerings serve a wide range of dental professionals, including orthodontists, general dentists, and those specializing in restorative and cosmetic dentistry. The company's operations are divided into two main business units: "Clear Aligner" and "Scanners and Services." The Clear Aligner segment offers a variety of solutions. Its comprehensive products include the full Invisalign treatment for teenage patients, designed to address complex orthodontic needs such as mandibular advancement, patient compliance tracking, and managing tooth eruption. It also features specialized Invisalign First Phase I and Phase 2 packages for younger children, typically aged seven to ten, who have mixed dentition (a combination of primary and permanent teeth). Beyond these, the segment provides non-comprehensive aligner options like Invisalign moderate, lite, express, and Invisalign Go. Additional non-case products include retention devices, fees for Invisalign training, and sales of ancillary items such as cleaning materials and adjustment tools used by dental practitioners during treatment. The Scanners and Services segment centers around the iTero scanner, a unified hardware platform offering various software applications for both restorative and orthodontic procedures. It supplies specialized restorative software to general dentists, prosthodontists, periodontists, and oral surgeons, as well as distinct software for orthodontists to manage digital patient records, perform diagnoses, and facilitate the fabrication of printed models and retainers. This segment also provides computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) services, along with supplementary products like disposable covers for the scanner wand and iTero models and dies. Furthermore, it includes third-party scanners and digital scan solutions, the Invisalign Outcome Simulator (a chair-side and cloud-based application for the iTero scanner), the Invisalign Progress Assessment tool, and TimeLapse technology, which enables clinicians to compare a patient's historical 3D scans against current data. Align Technology distributes its products worldwide, with a strong presence in the United States, Switzerland, and China. Founded in 1997, the company is headquartered in Tempe, Arizona.

How to buy Align Technology from India

Indian residents can buy Align Technology shares through Paasa in four steps. Funds leave India under the RBI's Liberalised Remittance Scheme and the shares are held in your own name with Interactive Brokers.

  1. Open a Paasa account

Complete digital KYC with your PAN, Aadhaar and address proof. Your brokerage account is opened in your own name with Interactive Brokers.

  2. Add funds under LRS

  3. Search for Align Technology and place an order

Find Align Technology by name or by its ticker, ALGN, and choose an order type. You can buy by amount or by quantity — fractional shares mean there is no minimum trade size. Align Technology trades 7:00 pm – 1:30 am IST; orders can only execute during that window.

  4. Track holdings and download tax reports

Follow your Align Technology position in USD and INR. Align Technology pays no dividend today, so your filing is the capital-gains statement plus the Schedule FA holding line.

FAQs

Can Indian residents buy Align Technology stock?

Yes. Align Technology (ALGN) has been listed on NASDAQ since 2001, in the Medical - Devices industry, and Indian residents can buy it through Paasa. You fund the account from your Indian bank under the RBI's Liberalised Remittance Scheme and the money is converted to US dollars. Shares are held in your own name at Interactive Brokers LLC and are SIPC-insured up to $500,000 in total, including $250,000 for cash.

How much does one Align Technology share cost in rupees?

One Align Technology share is $146.03 — about ₹14,028 at a USD/INR rate of 96.06 on 29 Sep 2026. Both the Align Technology price and the rupee rate move during the day, so the rupee cost changes with them.

What are the LRS and TCS rules for buying Align Technology from India?

Remit up to $250,000 per financial year under the RBI's Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS). Banks collect 20% tax at source on LRS remittances above ₹10 lakh in a financial year; the TCS is adjustable against your income-tax liability. FX and the LRS declaration are handled by your bank when you fund your account.

Can I buy Align Technology with less than the price of one share?

Yes. A whole Align Technology share is $146.03, but there is no minimum trade size: you enter a rupee or dollar amount and receive the matching fraction.

How are gains on Align Technology shares taxed in India?

The US does not levy capital gains tax on shares for Indian residents, so the tax is an India-side one. Gains on shares held for more than 24 months are long-term and taxed at 12.5%. Gains on shares held for 24 months or less are short-term and taxed at your income-tax slab rate. The gain is computed in rupees using the USD/INR rate on the purchase and the sale date, so the rupee move counts alongside the Align Technology price. Paasa issues a capital-gains statement for your return.

Does Align Technology pay a dividend?

No. Align Technology does not currently pay a dividend, so holding it produces no dividend income to declare in India. If it starts paying one, the Indian treatment is the usual one — dividends are taxed at your slab rate in India — and Paasa's dividend report would show the gross amount and any tax withheld.

When can I trade Align Technology from India?

NASDAQ trades 7:00 pm – 1:30 am IST in Indian time, so the close lands after midnight. The window shifts to 8:00 pm – 2:30 am IST when the US is on standard time. Orders can only execute during that window.

Is there estate or inheritance tax on Align Technology shares held from India?

US-situs assets such as US-listed shares can be exposed to US estate tax for non-US persons. It applies to your overall holdings in that jurisdiction rather than to any one position. Paasa's US estate tax calculator shows the exposure for a given portfolio value.

Do I have to declare Align Technology shares in my Indian tax return?

Yes. Foreign shares held on 31 March must be reported in Schedule FA of your Indian income-tax return. Paasa gives you a Schedule FA-ready statement listing your Align Technology holding, its cost and its closing value.

How do I sell Align Technology and bring the money back to India?

You sell during market hours (7:00 pm – 1:30 am IST) and the proceeds settle in USD in your Paasa account. From there you can hold the balance, reinvest, or repatriate. Funds can be withdrawn in any currency to any bank account in your own name. Whether the sale is short- or long-term is decided by the 24-month holding period.
