About
This Invesco MSCI Emerging Markets UCITS ETF Acc aims to replicate the net total return performance of the MSCI Emerging Markets Index (its benchmark), after accounting for applicable fees. The benchmark index is designed to gauge the equity market performance within global emerging economies, incorporating large and mid-capitalization companies throughout these nations and covering approximately 85% of each country's free float-adjusted market value. To achieve its objective, the fund primarily invests in a diverse portfolio of equities. While this portfolio typically generates the majority of the fund's returns, its specific holdings usually differ from those directly within the index. The ETF also employs unfunded swap agreements with approved counterparties. These contracts facilitate the exchange of any performance difference between the index and the fund's equity basket, aiming for more precise and stable index tracking than pure physical replication could achieve. This ETF is passively managed, meaning an investment constitutes buying units in an index-tracking fund, not direct ownership of the underlying securities.

No. Because EMSM is domiciled in Ireland rather than the US, it is not a US-situs asset, so US estate tax does not apply to it. US-listed ETFs held directly can be taxed at up to 40% above $60,000 when they pass to your family.

How is EMSM different from a US-listed ETF?
EMSM is domiciled in Ireland rather than the US. That keeps it outside US estate tax, and dividend withholding on its US shares is 15%, paid inside the fund, instead of the 25% withheld on a US-listed ETF. The 25% can generally be claimed as a credit in India; the 15% cannot. Capital gains on both are taxed the same way in India.
