Groww charges 0.1% with a USD 1 minimum per order, Dhan 0.25% with a USD 0.01 minimum, and neither caps the fee. Groww is cheaper above USD 400 an order, Dhan below it, and Dhan adds SIPs and fuller tax paperwork. On Indian delivery Dhan charges ₹0 and Groww up to ₹20.

What is Groww, and what is Dhan?
Groww is a Bengaluru investing app founded in 2016, run by SEBI-registered Groww Invest Tech Pvt Ltd. It was India's largest broker in September 2026, with about 1.34 crore NSE active clients. Groww closed an earlier US-stock service in 2024 and relaunched in September 2026 under its IFSCA approval at GIFT City, with Alpaca as US broker.
Dhan is a Mumbai trading platform launched in November 2021, run by SEBI-registered Raise Securities Pvt Ltd, with 11.21 lakh NSE active clients in September 2026. Its US-stock service opened on 12 June 2026 through Raise IFSC, its GIFT City subsidiary and an India INX member, with ViewTrade as US broker and custodian.
What does each charge on a US trade?
Groww is cheaper than Dhan on most orders and Dhan on small ones. Figures are in dollars before GST, as of October 2026.
| Charge | Groww | Dhan |
|---|---|---|
| Brokerage | 0.1% of trade value | 0.25% of trade value |
| Minimum per order | USD 1 | USD 0.01 |
| Cap per order | None | None |
| Other fees | SEC, FINRA and CAT fees passed through | USD 1 on transfers under USD 100 |
| Order size | Groww brokerage | Dhan brokerage |
|---|---|---|
| USD 100 | USD 1.00, the minimum | USD 0.25 |
| USD 500 | USD 1.00 | USD 1.25 |
| USD 2,000 | USD 2.00 | USD 5.00 |
| USD 10,000 | USD 10.00 | USD 25.00 |
The lines cross at USD 400. Below that Dhan's 0.25% is less than Groww's USD 1 minimum, above it Groww's lower rate wins.
What does it cost to send money and bring it back?
Currency conversion, not brokerage, is the main cost of buying US stocks on Groww or Dhan. Money goes out under the RBI's Liberalised Remittance Scheme, up to USD 250,000 a financial year, which Paasa's LRS guide explains. TCS is nil on the first ₹10 lakh remitted in a year and 20% above that, adjustable in your return, as Paasa's TCS guide covers.
Neither Groww nor Dhan publishes a forex markup. Groww converts at your bank's rate with no charge of its own. Dhan shows the bank's markup over the interbank rate in the app and locks it when you confirm.
| Funding detail | Groww | Dhan |
|---|---|---|
| Supported banks | Up to three linked banks, guides for HDFC, Kotak and Axis | HDFC, ICICI, IDFC FIRST, Axis, Kotak |
| Minimum transfer | Not published | USD 50 first, then USD 100 |
| Pay-in fee | None from Groww | USD 1 under USD 100 |
| Withdrawal fee | None from Groww | None |
| Rate shown before you confirm | Bank's rate | Bank's rate and markup, locked at confirmation |
At a 1% bank markup, ₹10 lakh costs about ₹10,000 to convert on either platform, more than most investors pay in a year of brokerage.
Which US stocks and ETFs can I buy on each?
Groww and Dhan both list 10,000+ US stocks and ETFs with fractional buying from USD 1. Dhan adds SIPs and Super Orders.
| What you can buy | Groww | Dhan |
|---|---|---|
| US stocks and ETFs | 10,000+ on NYSE and Nasdaq, with S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 index ETFs | 10,000+ on NYSE and Nasdaq |
| Fractional shares | Yes, from USD 1 | Yes, from USD 1 |
| SIPs in US stocks | Not listed | Daily, weekly or monthly |
| Order types | Not detailed on its pages | Limit by dollar value, Super Orders |
How safe is my money on each?
US stocks bought through Groww or Dhan sit with a US broker, not in your Indian demat account. Both run under IFSCA rules at GIFT City, Groww under its own approval and Dhan through Raise IFSC, a member of India INX. Groww's holdings sit with Alpaca Securities. Dhan's sit with ViewTrade, under SEC and FINRA rules, and Dhan says it never holds your dollars itself.
Groww's FAQ points to SIPC protection of up to USD 500,000 per customer if the US broker fails. Dhan's help pages do not mention SIPC, so ask before you fund. Neither covers a fall in prices. Indian shares sit in your own demat account at both, with unresolved complaints going to SEBI SCORES.
What do I get at tax time from each?
Dhan spells out its US statements and Groww so far does not. Dhan's Reports section gives Form 1042-S, pre-filled Schedule FA, TR and FSI, plus trade books and contract notes for capital gains. Groww credits dividends net of US withholding and points to the US broker's Form 1042-S, with reports and tax filing grouped in its US help centre.
The rules are the same on both. Gains on US shares held over 24 months are taxed at 12.5%, shorter holdings at your slab rate. The US withholds 25% on dividends once your W-8BEN is on file, and you claim it back in India through Form 67. Paasa's Schedule FA guide and foreign stock tax guide walk through each step.
How does the Indian stock side compare?
Dhan is cheaper than Groww for Indian delivery trades, and neither charges AMC. Both show US and Indian holdings in one app.
| Charge | Groww | Dhan |
|---|---|---|
| Equity delivery | ₹20 or 0.1% per order, minimum ₹5 | ₹0 |
| Intraday and futures | ₹20 or 0.1% intraday, ₹20 per futures order | ₹20 or 0.03% per order |
| Options | ₹20 per order | ₹20 per order |
| AMC | ₹0 | ₹0 for individuals |
| DP charge per sell | ₹16.50 plus ₹3.50 depository fee, plus GST | ₹12.50 plus GST per ISIN |
| Platforms and API | Groww app and web, own fund house, Trade API ₹499 a month | Dhan app, TradingView charts, Options Trader, free DhanHQ API |
When is Groww the better choice for US stocks?
Groww may suit you better than Dhan if:
- You place orders above USD 400, where its 0.1% rate costs less.
- You already hold mutual funds and Indian stocks on Groww.
- You want a stated SIPC position on your US holdings.
When is Dhan the better choice for US stocks?
Dhan may suit you better than Groww if:
- You buy in small lots, under USD 400 an order, or through SIPs.
- You want Super Orders and dollar-value limit orders on US stocks.
- You want Schedule FA, TR and FSI prepared for you, and ₹0 Indian delivery.
Should I choose Groww or Dhan for US stocks?
Choose Groww for larger orders and a single app that already holds your funds and Indian stocks. Choose Dhan for small or systematic buying, fuller tax statements and cheaper Indian trading.
| If you want… | Better fit |
|---|---|
| Orders above USD 400 | Groww |
| Mutual funds, Indian and US stocks in one app | Groww |
| A stated SIPC position | Groww |
| Small orders and SIPs in US stocks | Dhan |
| Schedule FA, TR and FSI prepared for you | Dhan |
| ₹0 Indian delivery and lower DP charges | Dhan |
Switching later is harder than with Indian shares. US holdings cannot move between Groww and Dhan by a CDSL off-market transfer. Selling to switch is a taxable event, so ask both about an in-kind transfer first, as Paasa's transfer guide explains. Many investors keep both and route new money by order size.
